DOGS ARE THE BEST

Throughout the history people have kept many different pets in their homes. One of the most favoured pets is dog. Dogs are preferred because people believe that they are loyal animals, they protect their owner, they see their dogs as a friend or child, and many people prefer to have a dog because of its cuteness. I also like dogs so much, because I think they are so pretty and smart animals. They can learn swiftly what they are taught.

Firstly, it is believed that dogs are loyal animals. I wonder why they are called as faithful animals. When I searched about it I was really impressed because there are so many proofs about this. If you love a dog and show affection, he never leaves you and he always protects you. John F. Kennedy’s dog is one of these loyal dogs. When he was assassinated, his dog longed for him. His dog stayed near the graveyard of Kennedy for days without taking any food. At the end, the dog died there. This is just one of the examples of these events.

Another reason is that people see and like dogs as if they were their friend or child. Humans and dogs can establish a mutual relation with each other. People play, take a walk, even they talk with their dogs. After a while, they don’t think them as just an animal. Some people call their dogs as ‘girl’ or ‘boy’ J Also, it is a scientific truth that people keep dog in order to overcome their loneliness. If you have a dog, you are not alone. You can tell everything to your dog. He always listens to you. Sometimes by barking, sometimes coming up to you, and sometimes just looking at your eyes, he certainly gives a reaction to you.

Finally, people prefer dogs because of their cuteness. They have many interesting ability and they seem quite pretty. This video is one of my favourites. Dancing of a dog is incredible, while even people cannot dance properly. The dog is in harmony with their owner and music. It’s perfect. Consequently, I love dogs and if I have a chance to keep a pet, I will certainly choose a dog J

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF FACEBOOK IS DELETED?

Hello everybody;

This time, I chose a video about one of the social networks ‘Facebook’. Most probably, almost all of you watched this video before, because you are already one of the members of the Facebook. This video is about ‘What will happen if Facebook is deleted?

According to the explanations of Mark Zuckerberg - the founder of the Facebook – the number of the of the members of Facebook exceeds 500 billion now. It shows us that Facebook is used in all over the world. Well... Is it a useful website or not? The answer of this question differs from person to person, but, I want to discuss the answer in line with this video.

Facebook is a social network which has so many facilities like communicating with your friends and relatives, sharing some photos and videos, commenting, etc. All these are good and enjoyable things. However, if Facebook is used excessively or wrongly, it might not be useful. Even if it is a social network, being on the computer for hours prevents socialization of people. As we see in video, people become to be addicted to Facebook, day by day and cannot imagine a life without it. Also, many things about real life such as birthdays, social events and even friendships are becoming ordinary because of the Facebook.

Consequently, people should be aware of that Facebook is only a website and it is not more important than the real life. It’s a good activity to spend your some leisure time, but it shouldn’t be your priority.

CINEMA OR HOME?

Thanks to the advances in technology, watching movies is becoming a very common hobby, nowadays. A lot of people spend enjoyable while they are watching a movie. Spending good time is a mutual feature for these people while they are watching movie, but, when it comes to choosing the right place, it differs from person to person. Whereas some prefer to watch at home, others may prefer to go to the cinema. Although they have some similarities, cinema and home differ from each other in many aspects.

Film - which is watched - is same for both of them. You can watch the movie at cinema or at home, but, one way or the other you will have watched the same movie. Cinema or home cannot change the theme of the movie or its performers. In this respect, we can think going to the cinema or watching at home don’t change anything. However, as I mentioned above differences are much more.

First of all, while people are choosing the place, they should decide whether they want to pay money for it or not. If a person chooses to go to the cinema, he has to pay a definite amount of money to buy a ticket. Also, he has to spend much more money if he wants to eat or drink something during the film. However, if the person chooses to watch the film at home, he doesn’t need to pay much money. He can go to a CD market and buy a film. Also, he can eat or drink whatever he wants by going to kitchen at home, so watching at home is much more economical when it is compared with going to the cinema.

Secondly, while choosing the right place, people should decide whether they want to watch the film alone or with their friends. Generally, people don’t go to the cinema alone. They invite someone. This person may be a relative, a friend or a lover. They can go to the cinema to spend good time together. However, they may also prefer to stay at home because maybe they like to make some comments while they are watching the movies. Because they have to be respectful to others, they cannot speak and comment in a public place like cinema. This situation effects the decision of the people while they are choosing the right place for themselves.

Lastly, people pay attention to the vision and sound quality of the film that they will watch. In the cinema, these conditions are much better when they are compared with a home’s conditions. You can watch the movie on a huge screen, the quality of the voice of an original movie is much better and the level of the sound is higher. In contrast, if you watch the movie at home, you cannot turn up the volume in order not to disturb your neighbours. Thus, when people decide where they will watch the movie, they should take into consideration all these conditions.

Consequently, we can say that watching a movie at home or cinema depends upon three main features: economical conditions, how you want to watch, and your expectations from the quality of the film. In spite of little similarities like watching the same movie, we can count much more differences like the above. All of these are effective while deciding which one is right place ‘cinema’ or ‘home’.

IMPACTS OF AN EARTHQUAKE

As all we know, there are so many kind of natural disaster such as earthquake, flood, fire and erosion. Today, I would like to talk about earthquakes. Earthquake is the most common and the most destructive one among these. Because Turkey is on a seismic zone, it has had to encounter with many earthquakes, throughout history. Normally, these bring several problems such as health problems, the loss of property and cultural problems.

First of all, earthquakes cause to death of millions. Baby, child, woman, man, several of people loose their life due to the earthquakes, because most buildings are knocked down after these huge shakes. Certainly, it is not the earthquake which leads to this collapse. The actual reason is flimsy of the buildings. Especially in our country, buildings are constructed badly in order to get the profit. Unfortunately, it costs the lives of people. Also, the others who have survived after the earthquake may have some physical or psychological problems because they have had to get trapped under depris or they are afraid or they have lost their relatives in earthquake. They may have to stay in hospital or need psychological support to get over these.

The loss of property is an another impact of an earthquake. After a huge earthquake, people loose almost their everything with the collapse of the buildings. They have to stay at tents for a while, they can’t work and earn money to live because their business places are damaged. As they can’t earn money, they can not fix the damage, as well. They have to deal with many hard conditions until each damage is mended.

Finally, a huge earthquake leads to social and cultural problems, too. Education is in the lead of these problems. Due to the collapsed schools, libraries and laboratories, injured or dead teachers, education service can not be provided well. Also, social life is effected badly by earthquakes. Because public places like cinema, theatre, cafe and park are destructed, people can not make use of them. People who are working at these places become unemployed, as well.

Consequently, we can summarize the impacts of an earthquake under three category: impact on health, the loss of property and impact on cultural things. We can not prevent or stop the earthquakes, but, at least we can reduce its impacts by constructing earthquake resitance buildings and making people conscious about the earthquakes.

DORMS AND HOMES

In the recent years, the number of the students at university has increased. Most university students come from another city or country. Normally, this situation causes an accommodation problem for these students. There are two groups at this point. While, the first group chooses to stay at college, in dorms ; the second group chooses to live at home. Certainly, there are some similarities between a home and dorm, but, in my opinion differences are a lot more.

The first group prefers to stay at the dormitory for financial situation, friendship and transportation conditions. First of all, a student chooses to stay at the dormitory because of the financial situation of his family. He may have to stay college because he doesn’t want to cost more money for his family. When it is compared with a home, an average dormitory is much more economical. In addition to financial conditions, the student may prefer to live at college because of his friends. He may think that staying with his friends is more enjoyable and flexible. He can do his homework with his friends and they may hang around together. Finally, the student chooses to stay at college because of the transportation. Staying at college means that you can arrive your class more quickly. There isn’t much traffic jam at the campus, so you don’t have to get up very early to catch the lessons.

The second group chooses to live at home and they have also the same reasons. But these reasons are the reversed versions of the first group’s. First of all, if a student wants to live in a more quiet and clear place, he has to stay at a private dorm because in ordinary dorms, conditions are bad. Normally, it means lots of money. So the student may think that both of them cost much but home is more reasonable in many aspects such as individuality, cleaning and freedom. Moreover, you may spend enjoyable time with your friends, but, on the other hand, staying with your friends brings some limitation for your private life. Home is more individual place when it is compared with a dorm. You can eat whatever you want, you can sleep whenever you want, you can watch or listen whichever channel you want. However, in public places like dorms, you can not behave so freely. In addition, a student may prefer home because he or she wants to stay away from the school life. Certainly, it is harder in respect of transportation. You don’t have to hurry up to catch the lessons at college. Conversely, you have to do it if you stay at home. But still, staying at home means that you don’t have to see the same people and the same places constantly and it makes you relax. Finally, the student prefers to live at home because he or she may be bored with staying in a dorm. For instance, I studied in a boarding-school in high school, so I don’t want to live at dorm, anymore. After a while, a person wants to live alone, cook his or her own meal, take shower in his or her own bath and sleep in his or her own bed.

To sum up, according to their needs and wishes, preferences of the students differ from each other’s. We can see two different groups of the students: living at home and living at college. There may be some common thread to all this, but differences are much more as I mentioned above. I would like to live at home, but, when I compare home with a dorm in all these aspects, I think that I should live at college.

OBESITY IS EVERYWHERE

Throught history, people have always had to deal with various diseases such as plague, tuberculosis and many other epidemics. Thanks to researches and technology, they improve some drugs for each of them day by day. But, in recent days, humanity is faced with a new disease called as ‘obesity’. There are three main reasons for obesity: biological structure of the person, consuming too much fast food and not doing exercise regularly.

First reason is biological structure of the person. While some people eat a lot but don’t put on much weight, some eat normal or quite little but, they still put on weight constantly. It means that metabolic functions vary from person to person. So people whose metabolism functions are slow are more inclined to catch the obesity because their digestive systems don’t function sufficiently and they can’t digest what they eat. Thus, all they eat turn into fat  and at the end, they will become obese.

Another reason is consuming too much fast food. In last few decades, fast food has become to spread everywhere. The numbers of people who consume fast food is increasing constantly because it is a practical, cheap and delicious way of eating.  However, it is also dangerous. It’s a triggering factor for obesity. In the livers of people who consume fast food, liposidosis comes out and it leads to dyspepsia for fats. The reason why people consuming fast food are being catched by the obesity is this.

Lastly and mostly, obesity results from not doing exercise regularly. Thanks to advancing technology, people live in in good conditions in comparison with the past. Today, almost everything can be done by automatically. This is more practical and more comfortable. Yet, it leads to inactiveness. In addition to this, when people don’t do exercise, they become put on weight each passing day and finally, they become obese .

To sum up, all these reasons show that obesity is really common disease in recent days. But, everybody can avoid it by eating healthy and natural foods, doing exercise regularly and going a dietician if it is necessary, because obesity is everywhere and it spreads constantly and threatens human health substantially.
